Cocktail shaker
- 1 oz lime juice freshly squeezed or bottled
- 1 oz grapefruit juice optional
- 1 oz orange juice freshly squeezed or bottled
- 4 oz lime sparkling water
- .5 oz agave
- 1 oz alcohol free tequila optional - tastes great without!
- Fresh lime to garnish
Add about ½ teaspoon of salt to a shallow dish, rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, then dip the rim lightly into the salt. The rim should look evenly coated, not packed with salt, so tap off any excess before filling the glass.
Fill a shaker with 3 to 4 ice cubes, then add the lime juice, orange juice, optional grapefruit juice, optional alcohol-free tequila, and agave; shake for 15 to 20 seconds. When the shaker feels cold and frosty on the outside, strain the drink over fresh ice, top with lime sparkling water if you want fizz, garnish with fresh lime, and serve right away.
Expert Tip: For the best flavor, use fresh citrus whenever possible. Shake with ice just until the shaker is frosty, then strain over fresh ice to prevent a watery drink.
Customization: If the mocktail tastes too sharp, add a bit more agave. If it's too sweet, add more lime juice. A tiny splash of olive brine can add a savory complexity.
Make-Ahead and Storage: You can mix the juices and agave ahead of time and refrigerate in a sealed container for up to 2 days. Add ice and sparkling water just before serving to keep it fresh and fizzy.
