Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Saucepan
  • Bamboo pick

Ingredients

Cocktail

  • 2 ounces Vodka or Gin
  • 2 ounces Pineapple Juice
  • 1 ounce Lemon Juice
  • 0.5 ounce Grenadine

Garnish

  • 1 Orange slice
  • 1 Maraschino cherry

Instructions

Homemade Grenadine Upgrade

  • Set a small saucepan over medium heat and combine 100% pomegranate juice with sugar, then let it come to a gentle simmer. You want it steaming and glossy, not boiling hard, smelling tangy and jammy.
  • Stir until the sugar dissolves and the syrup looks slightly thicker, then remove from the heat and add a dash of orange blossom water. Let it cool completely so it does not melt your ice later.

Shake for the Signature Froth

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then pour in the vodka or gin, pineapple juice, lemon juice, and grenadine. Add a tiny pinch of salt to round out the flavors without making it taste salty.
  • Shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until the shaker turns frosty and painfully cold in your hands. The hard shake is crucial because pineapple juice needs aeration to form a light foam.

Strain, Garnish, Serve

  • Strain into a glass filled with fresh ice, watching for that pale, frothy cap on top. The color should be a lively pink.
  • Pierce one side of an orange slice with a bamboo pick, add a maraschino cherry, then fold the other side of the orange slice over the pick to lock it in place like a small flag. Set it on top and serve immediately while ice-cold.

Notes

Batching Tip: For a 1-gallon batch (about 23 servings), mix 46 ounces vodka or gin, 46 ounces pineapple juice, 23 ounces lemon juice, and 11.5 ounces grenadine. Chill the mixture well, and serve over fresh ice.
Glass Preparation: Place your glasses in the freezer for 15 minutes before serving to give them a frosted feel and keep the cocktail colder longer.
Garnish Prep: Assemble the orange and cherry picks the night before to save time and feel fully prepared when guests arrive.
Storage: Store a batched pitcher in the refrigerator, tightly covered, and plan to serve within 24 hours for best freshness. Always pour over fresh ice rather than storing it with ice.
