- 8 oz. cream cheese, room temperature
- 1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1-1/2 cups pumpkin puree ((not pumpkin pie filling))
- 1 tbsp. pumpkin pie spice
- 2 tsps. vanilla extract
- 8 oz. Cool Whip, thawed
- assorted dippers, such as graham crackers, Golden Oreo cookies, vanilla wafers
Place the softened cream cheese and confectioners' sugar in a mixing bowl, then beat with a hand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment until completely smooth. The mixture should look pale, creamy, and free of visible cream cheese specks.
Add the pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla extract, then mix until evenly combined. Stop when the dip has a uniform warm orange color and the spices are fully blended through.
Use a rubber spatula to gently fold in the thawed Cool Whip until no white streaks remain. The mixture should feel light and thick with soft, mousse-like resistance as the spatula moves through it.
Serve the dip right away, or cover and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. Chilling gives the spices time to settle into the creamy base and firms the texture slightly.
Texture tip: Lightly blot the pumpkin puree with a paper towel before mixing it in to remove surface moisture and help the dip stay thick.
Ingredient handling: Let the cream cheese soften completely at room temperature before mixing. Slightly cool cream cheese can leave tiny lumps that are hard to fix later.
Troubleshooting: If the dip softens after chilling, stir it gently before serving rather than beating it again. Overmixing can flatten the whipped topping.
Make-ahead: Cover the dip tightly and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. Chilling gives the spices time to settle into the creamy base.
