- 2 ounces brewed espresso (double shot)
- 1-2 cups ice
- 1 teaspoon raw sugar optional
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla optional
- 3/4 cup protein shake
Fill a mason jar or glass with the ice, then brew the 2 ounces brewed espresso (double shot) directly over it. The ice chills the espresso quickly so the drink stays cold and refreshing.
Stir in the 1 teaspoon raw sugar (optional) and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional) while the coffee is still easy to mix. The liquid should smell sweet and coffee-forward, with no sugar sitting at the bottom.
Pour in the 3/4 cup protein shake and stir well or seal the jar and shake until fully combined. The drink should turn one even color and look creamy from top to bottom.
Add more ice if desired and serve right away. The finished drink should taste smooth, cold, and balanced instead of sharp or diluted.
Make-Ahead & Storage: You can mix the coffee and protein ahead of time and keep it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Leave out the ice until serving to keep the flavor from diluting. Shake or stir well before drinking as some separation is normal.
Flavor Tip: To prevent a watery drink, use coffee ice cubes or start with stronger coffee like espresso or cold brew concentrate.
Sweetness Tip: Many protein shakes are already sweetened. It's a good idea to taste the drink before adding any optional sugar to avoid it becoming overly sweet.
