Blender
Wide-mouth water bottle
- 2 cups watermelon (seeded & cubed)
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 teaspoon matcha
- Ice
- watermelon wedges for garnish Optional
Blend the watermelon until completely smooth, then set it aside. The puree should be smooth and pourable, like a thin nectar, without chunky bits slowing the pour.
Add the cold water and matcha to a wide-mouth water bottle and shake hard for 10 seconds. The matcha is ready when a fine foam forms on top and no dark green specks are clinging to the sides.
Fill two glasses with ice, pour the watermelon puree halfway into each glass, then slowly add the matcha over the back of a spoon. Pour patiently so the green layer lands gently and stays distinct instead of clouding into the pink layer.
Spoon any leftover watermelon foam over the top, then finish with watermelon wedges if using. The drink should look vibrant and clearly layered, with a fresh garnish that echoes the flavor inside.
Layering Tip: For clean, distinct layers, pour the matcha very slowly over the back of a spoon. The denser watermelon puree will naturally stay at the bottom.
Clump-Free Matcha: To avoid clumps, shake the matcha and water vigorously in a sealed bottle or sift the matcha powder before mixing.
Make-Ahead: You can prepare the watermelon puree in advance and store it in an airtight container in the fridge. Mix the matcha right before serving for the best color and flavor.
