Equipment

  • Microwave
  • Microwave-safe mug

Ingredients

  • 4 Oreo cookies
  • 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

Crush and Build the Base

  • Break down the 4 Oreo cookies into very small crumbs. You can use a mini food processor for a powdery texture, or a ziplock bag and rolling pin, keeping at it until the crumbs look fine and even.
  • Tip the crushed cookies into a microwave-safe mug or a shallow microwavable cup. If you want to use the optional twist mentioned in the article, stir 1/4 tsp baking powder and a tiny pinch of salt into those dry crumbs first so everything is evenly distributed.

Mix the Batter

  • Pour in the 3 tablespoons of milk and stir until the mixture becomes a smooth batter with no dry pockets. It should look thick, glossy, and deeply chocolatey.
  • If you want a molten center, press a single square of dark chocolate right into the middle of the batter and cover it completely so it stays tucked inside while cooking.

Microwave and Serve

  • Microwave the mug cake for 1 minute. When it is ready, the edges should look set and slightly pulled from the mug, while the center stays a little tacky for a fudgy finish.
  • Serve immediately while it is still warm. The texture will be moist and soft with a rich chocolate aroma.

Notes

Texture Tip: Crush the cookies into a very fine dust, not rough chunks, if you want the crumb to feel fluffier and more cake-like.
Timing Advice: Start checking the mug cake at 60 seconds. Overcooking is the fastest way to ruin the texture, turning the cake rubbery and dry.
Equipment Choice: A shallow cup often cooks the center more evenly than a deep, narrow mug, especially when you add the optional dark chocolate square.
